The Beauty of Grace (Part 2)
As we conclude the Lost and Found series, we look to the older brother in the story of the Prodigal Son. We all have a sense that fairness is well...fair! When an injustice is done to us or others, we want to step in and speak out. But is it really in the name of injustice or selfishness? Jesus, in his story to the religious people of his day, told about how the older brother protested the party his father was throwing for his younger brother (who squandered everything). Jesus gets to the heart of the matter the older brother was feeling -- the beauty of grace is that it makes life not fair. So how will we respond today?

The Beauty of Grace (Part 1)
We continue our short sermon series, Lost and Found by sharing the story of the Prodigal Son taught by Jesus. May you have heard the story before or perhaps not, either way, it's a story that displays the heart of the Father for the "cherished missing." Some need to hear today that God's grace is for them. Others need to extend that grace to those who are lost and invite them home.

    What Makes Heaven Rejoice?
We've all known the frustration of losing something valuable. How far we go to find it is often based on what the value or worth is to us. As we start a new sermon series, Lost and Found,  we will discover that Jesus went to extraordinary lengths to save that which was lost -- us. Through three stories -- or parables -- we will see that Jesus wants to seek us out and find each of us because people matter to God.

    Love Restores
In the final message to this series, "Because He Lives," we know that love restores. It was the famous interaction on a beach between Peter and Jesus where Jesus asks Peter, do you love me? Three times Jesus asks the question and three times Peter says, "yes Lord I love you." This was a beautiful story of forgiveness. Peter had denied Jesus only weeks earlier -- three times. So if you find yourself at odds with some one, Jim gives a beautiful picture of what restored loves does for us -- because He lives, we can indeed have restored relationships!

    Do The Next Thing
There are times in life when we don't know what to do next. For the disciples of Jesus, they found themselves without any hope for the future. Their leader was gone. They feared for their lives. The mission felt hopeless. And so, they went back to what was familiar...fishing! Why fishing? Well for starters they needed food. In addition, they just needed a minute to think, what is our logical next step. What is the next thing. The Resurrected Jesus shows up and gives them some insight to them...and us today. Because He lives...do the next thing!

    Believe Beyond Suffering
Many have heard the phrase, "trust but verify," but for Thomas (as known as Doubting Thomas), this was never more true. You see, he requested to see the hands, feet and side of Jesus before he believed that his friend, Jesus, had resurrected from the dead. When Jesus shows up, Thomas unbelief turns into belief. He sees and touches the wounds of Jesus right in front of his eyes. Often in our own times of unbelief, we need to see that Jesus' resurrection can turn  our unbelief into something possible. Because He lives...we can have belief beyond the suffering.

    Ordinary Becomes Extraordinary
We like to celebrate with food! From graduations, to weddings, to having a baby, to the promotion at work, to those important holidays -- we are a people who take the most ordinary activity -- eating a meal -- and turn it into a special significance. As we continue to look at the resurrected Jesus, we get a particular story in Luke 24v41-43, Jesus asked the disciples, "Do you have anything to eat?" At first glance, it seems like an odd question, but what Jesus wants us to learn is that he meets us in the ordinary, every day actions of life like a simple meal. Because he lives, the ordinary becomes extraordinary.

    Peace Unlocks Fear
After Jesus had died on the cross, the disciples went into hiding, behind locked doors. They remained there until Jesus appeared to them...alive and well. The disciples were dealing with the "what-ifs" when it came to the Roman Empire's decision to find them and possibly kill them. Jesus, however, unlocked their fears and challenged them to bring peace to those who would be willing to listen. We, too, deal with "what-ifs" in life, but because He lives...we are called to both live in peace and be peacemakers in the world around us.

    Expect the Unexpected
This Easter, Because He Lives, we get new life! We believe the resurrected Jesus changed everything. The earliest disciples believed Jesus' resurrection changed everything because they committed their lives to proclaiming the powerful message of Jesus conquering death. How does resurrection change everything? Because he lives...now what? This sermon, really this whole sermon series, will explore what happened after Jesus rose from the dead. Jesus stuck around for another 40 day on earth and was seen by over 500 witnesses. So what happened during this time? Press play to find out!

    Tragedy to Triumph
We all love a good story! From Shakespeare's plays to C.S. Lewis' writing to Hamilton on broadway -- Stories are powerful and effective when used in certain ways. Personal stories, ones that have low moments and high moments -- you could say tragedies and triumphs. Mark, too, had a story he wanted to tell about Jesus. We see in Mark's gospel writings that a historical event happened on that Good Friday, one that was very familiar to his Roman Christian audience. We have no context of the final days of Jesus in our modern era, until now...
